Hello, I’m Dr. Tawaun A. Lucas, a computational biologist with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Stanford University. I’m currently a Senior Scientist in Translational Data Science at Calico Life Sciences in South San Francisco, CA, where I lead single-cell meta-analyses of glial stress across Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and multiple sclerosis cohorts to identify biomarkers, define patient subgroups, and evaluate therapeutic targets. My work applies AI/ML and scalable computational workflows to single-cell and spatial multi-omic data in neurodegeneration and immunology, and I partner closely with wet-lab scientists to carry computational findings into experimental validation. Previously, I built and benchmarked AI tools for single-cell and spatial analysis at LatchBio and Biohub (formerly the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative), and at Genentech I created a cross-disease atlas of human and mouse astrocytes and led the development of spatial transcriptomics pipelines.
